Had the worst duck hunting day ever. (If that exists). I killed three spoonies and a Rudy. I was shooting mud hens ha boredom. Not much in the air. Then I shot a hen canvasback and made up for everything. I like killin cans.

No such thing as a bad duck hunt. If so you aren't doing all wrong Johnny! And nice job on the Canvasback.

OK, now if you are such a can fan do you now why they are called canvasback?

In the 1800’s when hunting was the main source of food (heavy market hunting on canvasbacks), those ducks shot would be shipped to the big cities via the train system. They were transported in canvas bags with writing on the bags saying “Canvas Back”, meaning they wanted the canvas bags back. So, the train mail staff would always joke around saying “there are those canvasback’s again” and of course talking about the ducks! And so that’s how they got their name “Canvasback”.
