New to San Diego hunting

Hello everyone, name is Owen. I was born in San Diego, raised in Colorado (hunting of course), and moved back to San Diego 10 years ago. I assumed there was no hunting opportunities here, so I have always gone to Wyoming and hunted with my brother. I have recently been spending every free moment researching hunting in San Diego (and California in general.) Very cool to see the hunting community is very active here! I am planning on going on my first Turkey hunt this spring, and try my hand with a D16 buck tag this next year. I have bought the maps, and am spending my free time scouting, trying to find my own little spot.

I hunt with a Remington 700 30-06 and always pack my trusty Colt .357 mag for assurance. I also have a browning 7mm-08 that used to belong to my mom but it is my spare gun.

anyways, hope to meet some experienced hunters and try and glean any knowledge I can!

Welcome to SCH.......If turkey hunting is what you're looking forward too......The NWTF Spring Turkey Tune-Up is Feb, 18th at Lake Sutherland......Great place to learn turkey hunting, calling, and the surrounding hunting areas......Plus, the draw for Lake Sutherland turkey hunts.

Awesome, thanks for the info. that is 25 miles from my house (Live in Escondido) so I will be there!

Welcome Owen. Turkey hunting on public land here is doable but probably more crowded than You are used to in CO. when scouting, be mindful that there will be other hunters nearby, and if you can schedule time off work to hunt mid-week you'll have a lot more space to yourself. See you at the tune up. I'll be on the registration desk.

Thanks for the response. I will do some scouting over the next few months so hopefully will find some areas. I should be able to hunt mid week as well which hopefully will help.

Will make sure I look you up at the tuneup
