Hello everyone. my name is steve martinez. new to hunting. what to hunt coyote & deer for starters. i need direction. total green horn here. currently own ar15, purchasing howa 1500 308 next. its in my budget. anyways thank you for adding me

Welcome Steve. There are a great bunch of knowledgeable guys here (not me though) who are wiling to help with specific questions.
Search the forums first, most of your questions will have been already been asked. Then Google the s**t out of it. Then, when you can't find something, ask the experts here. They are eager to help those who have put in the effort. Good luck.
You are off to a great start, you have 2 rifles that will cover 95 percent of you hunting needs.

Welcome to the site. My opinion don't get another rifle get a shotgun. A 12 ga will get you into way more game as a newb than the 308. Wears entering the heart of Upland and waterfowl season. After that Turkey. There is no game you will need the 308 for now. Your AR is fine for coyote. Pick up a pump shotgun.

Agreed grab a shot gun. LOTS of opertunity with a 12g.
In so cal you will need to learn to love birds so you have more hunting
