`Hello all. Wanted to up my hunting game in California and happened to Google trip on to this site. Haven't had much time to lurk, but will be reading as much as I can. Seems to be a plethora of info here. I live in D14, so it will be my primary hunting spot, but I'm not afraid to step out of my own zone. I'm primarily an archery hunter, shooting a 2013 PSE Brute-X. I haven't had a lot of time to hunt because of the busy family/military life over the last couple of years. But with the new job I should be able to make more time this year to actually get out and get some. I recently picked up a Mossberg 500, and am going to be setting that up for hunting also. No ETIC for picking up a hunting rifle, but it is on the docket.

I've already started some scouting in this zone and plan to continue scouting sign and glassing throughout the summer. If anybody is willing to divulge hotspots for this zone. Thanks. If not, I'll press on as planned.

I'm not that experienced. But I'm quick and willing to learn. Please don't take my willingness to go-it alone as a sign that I won't be a willing hunting partner. Right now, I'm setting myself up for a multi-day back pack style hunting. That isn't set in stone, but I'll still setup my gear and train my body throughout the months to get to that level. That goes for my shooting also. I have a high standard on how well I need to shoot before I start flinging sticks at critters. I haven't been behind the bow in a while and am getting it refreshed as of this writing, I have a lot of practicing to do this spring/summer.

As far as hunt-able animals. Whatever is in season and legal. I enjoy coyotes/bobcats as I want to help out the deer population as much as I can. Obviously I enjoy deer, but I'm also down for flappy things (that doesn't sound right), bacon wagons, bear and whatever else happens to be legal, edible and/or furable.

Hope to be able to give as well as take from the site, but most likely will be taking more than giving as I am a relative noob.

Glad to have found my way here.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the forum slide. You will learn a lot on this forum. Most likely you're not going to get any hotspots for deer. It just takes a lot of scouting and preparation. Also lots of bird hunting available. Dove, duck, and many more in the Imperial Valley. Good luck on your scouting.

Did someone say Plethora?............ ;D

I hunt D14 every year. I can promise you there isn't any honey hole here. There are some decent area's, but mostly crowded. Also there is only a few areas that you can really pack in for a few nights. Most of the time you are only a few miles away from civilazation. Dont get me wrong. There is more deer in D-14 then people think. It's just a hard area to hunt. Where you see them in the summer, isn't where they'll be when general season opens. PM me & I'll give you some areas to start
