Anyone know where I can find out the rules for use of rifles in National Forest located within Los Angeles county?

Yes goto DFG for mammal regulations, you can also get the pamphlet at Big 5, etc. In Angeles Forest you can use rifles outside the Station Fire area, and generally the area north of Red Box east on the line down to SG River and the Reservoir. Bow only south of that line. Last weekend I asked 2 forest rangers and 1 male ranger was very helpful, the female ranger was more reserved, but they will confirm the areas on a map, and tell you where rifles are acceptable. Generally I'd stay away from all the trails and roads, and further back you go, the more isolated you get, for example back by Mt. Waterman.
