Quiet out here this morning. Rain stopped, wind light but steady, cool air but the sun is warming quickly. Trying to figure out where they are. I expected them to move after the overnight rain, but nada so far.

Nice to be out anyway

Thanks guys. They're not here today. First time I've been shut out completely at this location; usually does and spikes around at least. Walked for an hour between 10-11am, down along the creek and up to the overlook. No more than 4 or 5 fresh tracks (since the rain this morning), all isolated. Tried to find sign around potential bedding areas but no luck there either. There are a lot of washouts from the last couple of days, and the creek and the breeze are noisy. That and the wet ground made walking a lot less noisy. Too bad I didn't find anything to stalk :-(

Good luck Don! They maybe up above where it's out of the dense brush. After the rain I occasionally see them across the street from your spot up above the ridges.

Wondered. Wouldn't expect them to go to higher elevation at this time of year, but clearly they moved out of my area.

I scouted another area this afternoon that seems promising: narrow canyon that opens to a wide flat area covered with oaks. acorns on the ground and other good browse, lots of fresh tracks going every which way. Would be a great area for still-hunting with a rifle. Bow will be a little more challenging but if I make too much noise, I found a spring part way up the canyon that would be a good spot for an ambush next time out. I hear there may be a buck in there somewhere that wasn't taken during rifle season. Hope to try it out next weekend maybe.

Don,

Is that the spot I mentioned to you last week?.........Just looks gamey......... ;)

Ah I hunt A22 also I know just where you are there are deer in there all the time good luck.. I'll be up there after Christmas but in a different area. After a buck I missed back in Oct if he is still around.

It used to be but the past few years it has been hit hard with both hunters and non hunters trying to keep the hunters from scoring. It has sold out the past couple of years and you see stands every 100/200yds apart any more.
