Figured I would make a real post about this instead of the 100 page legend of a thread.
I recently obtained a fully custom 338 RUM (details below) and did some load workup. It was an ordeal to get, basically took 2 to get shipped due to a local FFL not actually shipping the rifle even though he said he did...but gun was worth the wait.
-Fusion TI action with 4.00 wyatts cut
-Hawkins bottom metal with wyatts 4.00 box and follower
-carbon six 1/9 twist 26inch
-MBM 5 port break
-jewell trigger set at 1lb
-manners MCS stock with edge fill technology
-Hawkins 30mm rings
-Maven RS.5 4-24x50 scope (I love this scope)
I was lucky enough to grab some 260 HH and ADG brass from fine firearms well before the firearm shipped. I have around 10 lb of RL26, so despite warnings from a few on here about erratic behavior I decided to start there for my loads using noslers load data (they had 87.5 max load)
Another note, I now crimp hammer bullets. It just gives them an edge of consistency. I seat the bullet to the middle of the first pdr groove and crimp.
Test 1
83.0 - 2830
84.0 - 2855
85.0 - 2866
86.0 - 2906
87.0 - 2905
88.0 - 2957
Test 2
88.0 - 3018
89.0 - 3028
90.0 - 3047
91.0 - 3096
92.0 - 3113* Pressure, slighty sticky bolt
I like to take loads up to pressure to see what I can do. I believe I changed my neck tension between Test 1 & Test 2 up to 4 thou. For this particular case, I loaded up a few rounds at 90 and 90.5, then let them shoot.
90.0 - 3079
90.0 - 3054
90.0 - 3054
Producing a 0.289" group
90.5 - 3069
90.5 - 3062
90.5 - 3067
Producing a 0.373" group
I am sold on jewel triggers! No wonder by John recommends them so highly.
Since then, I've shot another 3, 3 shot groups with 90.5 grains. All three groups are sub 0.30" inches. This is by far the best rifle I have ever shot, which is funny due to the recoil it has...but the manners stock fits me incredibly well.
I still need to stretch it out to distance, but I am loving this rifle. My new favorite.
Final load
New ADG Brass
GM215
1/4 FCD
RL 26
90.5 gr
3065
ES 9.0
SD 3.5
~1/4 MOA

Here is a fouler shot plus 4 of the 213HH going 3300 fps. This is running 93.5 grs of IMR 4955.
the recoil with this load is quite a bit less but not as accurate as the 260HH.
