Greetings everyone. I just found this great looking active forum and thought this will be the place for me. I just got my Hunter Education card after the class yesterday and am looking forward to learning about this cool stuff before going out to hunt for the first time here in So Cal. While the hunting thing is new to me shooting guns are not as I have been a sportsman in that respect for over thirty years. My current guns (short list) of interest to the hobby are Remington 870 Express Magnum, two AR-15 first is the 6.5 Grendal with a 20 inch barrel and next is the 5.56 both of which I put together from parts ,Rock Island Armory 1911 45 and,...while I have a WW II M44 that shoots 7.62x54 I am leaning towards a modern rifle for my larger game stuff so I see a bolt action 308 in my near future. I am looking at the SAVAGE AXIS II XP 308 with the Accu-trigger i'm a man on a budget so I believe this will do....MATT... ;D

PS>I also have a nice well built Jeep Wrangler TJ to take me where I need to go...just sayin...LOL

Aww a man after my own heart. I love jeeps. I've been building them for a living for near 30years. I also hunt on a small budget so I've also been looking at the savage 2. Ill be getting it in 243 since I've got an ar10 in 243. As for the ARs the 6.8 and the 556 will do well for most California game. If you need any work done on your tj or need some custom built bumpers cage or sliders I do work for materials only for others hunters.

Matt,

Welcome to SCH.......Love the Savage Axis out of the box (daughter has the .243)...... ;)
X2 the savage Axis right out of the box is a sweet little rifle pretty accurate. I also have it in .243 never shot the .308

Welcome Matt. (Bad pun intended)
I've got the Axis II in .223 and a model 10 in .308. Both are sub moa with factory ammo. I'm putting off .243 for now, already too many loading dies;) I have a modified off-road Xterra and I'm a Ham nerd as well. Good luck, see ya out there.
