Just wanted to share some of my fishing trips from this summer. Been fortunate enough to get out and get on some fish. Have gotten out a handful of times since May. Had a few firsts and one that I will never forget. Ready for hunting season!
Went out to CJ strike resivoir to break in my wifes uncle's new boat back in May for my bday. We camped overnight and I was able to hook up on some crappie for the first time. I caught a few nice slabs! They are fun to catch.
Crappie tacos!
In June I was doing some catfishing of course in the Snake River and have been able to hook up on a few. Lots of good meals!
Been cooking it a few ways. Fried some up using pork rinds as breading and then made some baja style beer battered ones.
With the help of a buddy I was able to set a handful of crawfish traps out in July. My mom was coming to visit for the first time and I wanted to make her an Idaho surf & turf. Made some elk steaks with a crawfish cream sauce with a side of fresh picked morels and then made some crawfish and sausage gumbo while camping.
At the end of July Idaho game & fish was stocking some chinook salmon in the Boise river. I went out a few times but didn't catch one. I did get to catch my first trout out of the river and first time getting one on a spinner.
& just the other night I was fortunate enough to land my first Idaho White Sturgeon! A coworker of mine goes out for them a lot and we went out about a month ago but had no luck. We decided to go last minute on Tuesday night under the full Sturgeon moon and hooked up. Mine was 8' 2" and fought it for almost 30 min. It towed the boat up and down river. The bugs were out in full force but couldn't stop us from getting after it.
Here's a video of my catch. Just a warning I only had one song on my phone and it's from my old metal band so turn the volume down if you don't like that type of music lol \m/\m/
