Hey guys,

I'm going to try my hand at dove hunting this year; maybe quail too. Looking to see if there are any experienced hunters that would want to help teach a newcomer.

I'm actually from Ontario and plan to scout around Riverside/Imperial counties. I've just got a new 12 ga and am eager to try it out.

I'm new to the area but I used to put down some doves back in Minnesota. A friend and I are also looking to get into some this fall. I have a deeks and a Mojo but we don't have much time to scout because of our work. We are in San Diego but would be willing to make a drive if you know of a good spot.

Not much to dove hunting. Head out to the Imperial Valley with a bunch of shells and post up near a field and wait. I like fields that have some cover around them like eucalyptus trees. Bring lots of water and fishing poles if you want to try for some catfish.

What breacher said... I went out yote hunting this morning and I can say that doves are all over the place should be very easy scoring some..

They are wonderful! They are as good to eat as they are to shoot!

I cut the breast meat off, marinade them in Italian dressing for a few hours. Then wrap the breast (along with a thin slice of jalepeno) in bacon. Throw them on the grill and wash down with ice cold beer.

You can cut out the marinade time and consume quicker depending on what you like.

Yum...out of focus but you get the idea. Cooked rare/medium rare...Good stuff Maynard! ;)

If you have the patience and want to entertain some folks you can pluck and gut them, deep fry them whole with the skin, then toss them in some kind of wing sauce whole or split. People always get a kick out of eating the 'tiny little chickens.'

Yep...can't beat em. They are good no matter what you do. What a fun social event. Cant wait - 35 more days!

I'm going to try that recipe.

I printed out the latest DWU map so I check out the fields in a few weeks when I have to visit one of my terminals out there.

Ive got a spot about an hour and a half from San Diego. Its private property and not a huge area but we usually do pretty good especially second season when a lot of the locals have already got their fill. if you want to tag along sometime your welcome to. im going to blythe for opener but ill probably be going the following weekend.
