Haha, I hear most guys recommend at least a GMC for that kind of hunting. Agreed, such a waste. I'm more frustrated about that then I am about the whole incident.
Not exactly how I envisioned it. Was not able to safely get pics of the elk but it was a stunning mature bull with massive antlers.
Tried to see if I could salvage the animal but Nevada won't allow. Such a waste.
Just happened upon these today on clearance at good old Walmart. The mounting style is a bit lame (no 1/4 20 threaded insert) but for this price I'll make it work. These will be my high risk cameras for those spots where I'm convinced someone will see them. They actually have a small TFT LCD...
These are D14...I would love to put in some time to help. I have looked at Cal Deer and MDF, but from what I can see they don't have much of a presence around here. Are there other volunteer organizations I might be missing?
Good point, I would not be surprised if that was a factor. With all the talk about how people have stolen habitat from wildlife I would think that group would welcome the extra help.
I'm no expert on grazing history but it seems unlikely these were for cattle. At least one has a USFS plaque on it. I have found one that is working and has water coming in, but I don't actually see the tank, just the trough. Anyway, for the ridiculous number of tags they sell vs. the low...
While out scouting I have come across 4 water tanks, none of which were functional and all look like they have been out of commission for a while.
It doesn't seem like it would take much to get them back up and running. Anyone know why they don't get fixed?
Didn't draw X9b so will be taking a crack at D14. Unfortunately work will prevent hunting until last week of season. Biggest bummer is my son didn't draw his J11 apprentice tag on his last year of eligibility. That's life though, just means we have to hunt harder.
That sounds like a hell of a souvenir!
Thank you, it was a great day. He says rabbit hunting has been his favorite. Since cottontails are out of season we're going to try for jacks one of these weekends soon.
My son and I scouted the hell out of D14 leading up to the general season. But because of my work travel schedule we had only 3 days to hunt and were not successful. Despite that I'm very happy because we got to know D14 and found some great spots. Silly mistakes were all that stopped us...
