Thanks for the replies all.
I actually just sat back down from working with her in the yard. What worked for the last puppy doesn't necessary work on her. What I just did was change when I gave the heel command to only when she was in the exact position I wanted and I extended my hand...
I found a box of old reloads my dad worked up years ago before getting rid of the rifle. There is about 50 or more loaded rounds and a little bit more brass.
I'll give them to someone if they can use them. PM me if you like.
This is one strong willed little puppy. It's only been ten days since I've had her so I don't expect miracles but holy cow she is funny. I've been working with her at least twice a day on her name, heel and come. She has her name down pat and will heel some times and come sometimes. This is...
I didn't get drawn for a tag there this year but I thought I'd encourage someone who did.
I just got back from a jeep ride with my sons and saw two legal bucks. First one was a nice 4x4 down by the river that I almost ran over bombing down a sand wash. He must have been laying under a tree and...
Thank You, we played around with another bird this afternoon and she is definitely bird crazy.
I got her from a guy in Utah. This was his last litter so I'm pretty excited to have got one.
A month or so in a thread here i was reading someone suggested the book Mule Deer by Norman and Carpenter.
Awesome book and I highly recommend it.
Thanks to whom ever made that reply.
So mid July this year I adopted a GSP and posted a thread about it. In a tragic accident this dog died the opening weekend of Dove season. It was a freak accident and it tore me up. My wife surprised me with a bundle of cash she had been stashing away for something special and last Saturday...
Thank you everyone for the thoughts, I really appreciate it. After deliberating with my wife she has green lighted a new pup. I was referred to a guy in Utah who has a female 8 week old available with an amazing pedigree of NAVHDA ass kickers on both sides. I'll be going to get her in a...
I hunted all but two days from opener until this past Monday and it was an emotional roller coaster to say the least.
The good was I limited each day except opener where I got skunked. Opening day I was invited to hunt someones private land south of Blythe behind Palo Verde. It sounded like...
Thanks all.
I joined NAVHDA a year ago in anticipation of a dog, I had my heart set on a Pudelpointer but after a year of waiting around this opportunity popped up and I jumped on it. Joining the group gave me lots of time to watch them work their dogs, learn and had the added benefit of...
In steel I got one case of 7 and the other is 6. Last year I shot 6 out of an old A5 with a newer Invector choke barrel on it. They seemed fine with a mod choke. I'm going to go pattern the 7's tomorrow and see what it looks like in the same gun.
I am the new owner if this fine 3 year old dog. A friend hasn't had time to work or hunt him in a year or more due to work and wanted him to go to someone who will get him out there.
He is bird crazy, steady to point and flush but breaks on the shot and pulls up short on the retrieve. I'm a...
Two are steel and the other lead. I'll be spending the majority of my time hunting Cibola NWR for dove and quail.
Last year for opener I hunted the state fields just north of Blythe and took 6 boxes of steel. There were so many dove that I was out of steel day 2 in the AM. I won't be...
