    Buck down

Looks like you need some bino's, a gun....and a gas powered weed whacker to hunt there LOL!

    AO tag

No problem...it certainly can be confusing, especially because some states do it just like you described. Instead of "preference" points, those states award "bonus" points. For those states, if you have the 6 points, you get 6 chances (by computer drawing) to pull the lowest number you can. When...

    AO tag

This is actually a little misleading. California is a "preference point" state which gives you "preference" over other applicants that have lesser points than you do. You do not get 6 tickets in the drawing...it simply means, in the 1st round draw itself, that you will be awarded a tag (if...

    G13 Success

To you sir, I will give a definite thumbs up! Even though it was a very young deer...recognizing the animal was not going to make it and deciding to take it anyways was the right thing to do. GOOD JOB! To the person that shot it in the first place, you just prove my point that there are people...

San Diego scores for mule deer

Just my opinion... but I believe D16 has a higher percentage of hunters that measure success on the "kill" rather than the hunt itself. There is nothing wrong with this but it does mean, in most cases, that anything legal is going down....even the younger/smallest forks and even does. On top of...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

Pretty sure you have a 1:10 twist rate. Going to copper you needed to go down in weight anyways. The 150 grain bullet should perform very well. Federal Copper, Barnes Vortex...both good ammo, and I believe they are both right at 2,900fps. Although pricey, Doubletap ammo is good stuff too. They...

San Diego scores for mule deer

I would think many Folks, if not most, would be surprised at just how big some bucks do get in San Diego county. Like anywhere, you need genetics, feed and AGE. Just take an evening trip to the Wild Animal Park when they are in velvet and you would be SHOCKED at the size of some of the bucks in...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

I took a dremel and cut a small groove in the neck of an empty cartridge so the bullet was just snug. Then left it long, loaded it, and ejected in carefully to find the measurement for touching the lands.

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

You got me thinking about that so I looked it up.... Hunting Also see kiosk or website Bicycles: Allowed only on designated trails or routes, but there are NONE [14 CCR § 551(j)(5)] Camping: NOT allowed Closures: Hunting: Closed to hunting February 1 through August 31 except during the...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

From what I can tell, accuracy and pressure improve if you have a little more jump. Also, I do believe most Folks are finding the same thing with the E-tip as well. Those were really the only two bullets I researched. I looked briefly at the copper Kalahari bullet, but it's more of a fragmenting...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

Note: If you are going to be reloading copper, sounds crazy but all my research and experimenting shows that they like to be loaded so the bullet is well off the lands. Barnes actually recommends a .050 jump.

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

Going from 180 lead to 150 copper is just what you needed to do. The increased speed will help in performance. A 180 copper bullet would be substantially longer that a 180 lead and you would need to spin it up more to keep it stable anyways. Some of these long range shooter are using heavy...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

Barnes Vortex 80grain TTSX 3350fps Doubletap ammo - w/Barnes 85grain TSX 3320fps Federal premium Trophy Copper 85 grain ( I believe they use E-tip bullets) 3200fps. You want to go with a lighter bullet for copper. So....an 80 grain copper bullet will be noticeably longer than the same grain...

    D16 Deer Hunting - Lead-free or not?

Decided to get a jump on it and loaded some Barnes 110 TTSX for my daughter and then the Barnes 129 LRX for myself (both 270wsm). I decided to carry my daughters gun one day, as I was more interested in the performance of that particular setup, and did take a nice buck. Gotta tell ye, VERY...
