I have always worried about them, since I saw my first prints and kill site. Its just something to keep in mind if your solo. Like hatchet said be prepared mentally and have some sort of deterrent on your belt. Long hikes out to your spot in the dark can get spooky. I'll keep a handheld light...

Or if you have an old android phone still laying around just use that and an el cheapo reader. I have been using a bone collector branded reader. I'm sure it comes out of the same factory in china they all do.
