Yeah, I'm thinking of saving my brownie points for this weekend. I thought about hitting some snipe if I didn't get on.
I'm going to try to make January count as it will be my last month in CA before I get medically retired.
Anybody hunting / sweating SJ tomorrow? I don't have a ressie, but I thought about trying to sweat it since I had to take a month off while on baby watch. Boy #3 showed up last week so I might give it a shot.
Free roam is your best bet. They only have a few blinds and they go quick. My buddy and I hunted it in 2015 and we free roamed it and did very well.
A sled will help immensely so you can float your gear to where you want to hunt.
Check the flood map.
I haven't bonded the sheaths onto the antelope horns. Most people use bondo. I might use something that I can remove at a later date if I want to have a shoulder mount done. I caped the larger 'lope out, but decided not to do a shoulder mount at the time. I might change my mind one day as it...
Finally got around to getting some DIY antelope and mule deer euro mounts done. I haven't got the sheaths of the pronghorns bonded onto the horns yet, but you get the point.

I guess one of the benefits of having you sh*t pushed in for 10 years is that you get to hunt on land otherwise off limits to other people. Not to mention, it's literally in our backyards.
I found this guy bedded down under a small tree when the fog lifted. I can't believe he was still there...
I was right before you in the line, our E blind was pretty dead. A couple of widgeon and a teal. Not complaining, but boy did the action really turn off after the fly off.
I HATE face paint. Maybe it's the Marine in me, but that stuff just plain sucks...especially when the sun is blazing. I have a Drake Waterfowl face mask that I like. Usually, being still in a good blind is enough to keep from spooking ducks.

I'm glad you saw a few birds. It was pretty dead on Saturday. The fly off was weak and there wasn't really a whole heck of a lot flying. A lot of guys were cussing all morning stuck in the mud, haha...that sucks
Anyways, busting the rust off is better than letting it build.

I was pretty surprised at how passable the roads were considering all the apocalyptic predictions. Made it through Scaup road no problems, but I have 4WD. Apparently a lot of guys got stuck afterwards, as we could hear them yelling all morning.
Slow hunting. It was the least amount of birds...
Just curious how passable the roads around Wister are right now? I've heard a couple roads are washed out or impassable. Are y'all heading there this weekend?
