    My boy drew X9A

Same thing happened to my dad in 2007 up in x12. 2 days of snow and the next day it cleared up and he ended up shooting a 24inch spread 4x4. Seems like you don't see those big guys until the snow pushes them down. Sent from my iPhone

    D15 ??

Haven't hunted d15 for a few years. Shot a big forky up there off of wierick exit in a place called Bedford trail. But since then they have just built a golf course and too many houses. Pretty thick brush in the trabuco district. But to be positive about it I hear that there are a lot of big...

Is 300WSM "Too Much" for deer?

Re: Is 300WSM "Too Much" for deer? Well depends on if your trophy or meat hunting. If the shot is not placed right then you can say goodbye to that section of the deer as far as meat goes, but for large elk it's perfect. Congrats on the new rifle! Sent from my iPhone

    Question about bullet selection

That's a nice buck!! Nothing like the feeling of getting a local deer. Still working for my first 4 point buck

    Question about bullet selection

I shoot a 150 gr .270 bullet and I'll send you a picture of the Barnes bullet I shot a deer with last year. Expanded good and from experience if you are reloading, the Barnes are Better than Noslers. I had a hard time seating the Noslers vs. the Barnes in the casing which made it hard to chamber...

    Draw results

Anybody get any good tags for the fall deer season? I applied for x12 but didn't draw the tag. However I'm going to head up to D7 for my week rifle trip and A31 for my local archery hunt. Sent from my iPhone

    Backpacking trip?

Sorry man I just saw your post. Yeah I want to go try a couple of areas that I know of up in wrightwood. Last year I shot a buck during the rifle season up in the bighorn sheep area and I really like it there. I want to check that spot for some new sign and possibly a couple other spots. I'll pm...

    rangefinder tether

I own the Nikon tether that they sell at Bass Pro. It's ok, not too noisy but it does make some. Definitely not worth $30. The concept of the belt clip tether for rangefinders is cool though, makes it way easier to use when walking around and need it quick. Sent from my iPhone

    Bonehead move

As soon as your bow is fixed you should do a "walk back" tune on it. You know this already but I'll explain anyway. Haha. At 20-30 yards your bow might be right on but as you get farther back your arrow could be left or right due to more distance between you and the target. This allows your...

    Elk

Sounds like it was a fun hunt. I always say to my hunting buddies if you help me spot it or pack it out you get meat. So I would welcome any help by you if I get the tag. What caliber rifle did you use? I typically hunt with a .270 for deer however I do have a 30-06. I like the .270 but is that...

    Elk

Thanks man that's all I really wanted to know, if it was more private or public. All I could go off of is the description next to the tag saying it has public access. It was the bull tag (349), the later season. It said that the success last year was 2 for 2 so I figured it had to be a decent...

    Elk

Lol I say no there's no hunting here. I'm chasing 2% of the deer in sd any. It's easy to find little deer. I'm having problems finding big ones when there in season. Seriously we spend a lot of money every year hunting zones with a 2% harvest rate in hopes of scoring. Why not dot it with an...

I'll go scout if you want to pay for my gas.... I would never let lack of scouting stop me from hunting. Even if I don't score. Sent from my iPhone

Oh I know it is. Elk is pretty much a once in a lifetime trip for me so I'll spend the money now before I have kids.

No I knew before I applied. I'm just shocked how much Cali charges for a resident tag. Me and my dad are going in 50/50 for whenever one of us gets drawn so we can split the meat. Sent from my iPhone

    Elk

well I just found out it cost $450 for a resident elk tag!!! That's crazy, I can go to flagstaff and pay $500 for a nonresident next year. Sent from my iPhone

That's all we Californians can hope for when it comes to hunting. I tell people I know that I hunt and they say things like "there are deer in California?" Or "I didn't know that people in California hunt." I have faith in my 2%.. Haha Sent from my iPhone
