    Who Shoots a Traditional Muzzleloader

My muzzleloader is a Pedersoli 20 ga. s x s I bought from Bass Pro maybe 25 or so yrs. ago. It use to put quite a dent in the dove population and worry a lot of quail. the lock time on those things are something you could time with a stop watch. Any imperfection in swing and follow thru, you...

Can you Hunt in County of Orange Public Land

In the later 60s, my buddy and I use to go on depredation hunts on Irvine Ranch with a Game Warden supervisor. They allowed 25 hunters to hunt cottontail, jacks and ground squirrel, all you could take. The counts were impressive. Jacks and squirrels could be left where they lay, cottontail...

    Pocket Knife

I carry a Victorinox 'Officer Svisse' as my day to day sidekick. It was a gift from my daughter 25 or so years ago. it was green camo which has since worn off to black and I still have the tweezers and toothpick. I have looked at others but this seems to fit what I need in a pocketknife.

Say Hello to Less Fishing & Hunting in Kalifornia

Heir Newsom said we were the 5th largest economy and we need to flex our muscle, that's not quite it. The guy is full of himself and drunk on his own found power. I just wish he and his would go away.

    Moorhens ( Coots) are arriving.

Wister use to (?) have a coot depredation hunt and a BBQ after the hunt. My dad went to it a couple of times and said they weren't bad eating. Now that I think on it, this was 50 yrs. ago. I don't know if they still have anything close to it.

NO Sportsman's Catering Truck This Year

Altho I don't duck hunt any more, I have fond memories of Wister and Max and his trailer. I go back to the days when the check in and lines were where the camping area is now. Of A, B and C ponds and the goose fields, hot coffee, hot chocolate and friendly advice. Things change, I hope for the best.

    First dove

Zak, I've hunted dove over 60 years and when I drop that first one of the season I feel like a kid again. It's easy to get hooked, so just go with it.

    Bird shot

Since I have to use steel shot I'm happy with 6 shot as a first choice for dove and quail with #7's as a second. If I do my part they both will work.

First Dove Hunting Gun and Location?

A 20 ga. ranger s x s for a shotgun and it was either in the I.V. or on a cattle ranch in the hills behind San Clemente. The ranch I remember being positioned in a corner of a corral and under the eyes of a dad and granddad. At the ranch, as a preteen I was handed a square back Remington 12 and...

Let the crying begin~non lead price gouging..

I've bird hunted most of my 70 years and have seen quite a down sprial in ammo sales in california. As a kid, every gas station in the IV sold shotshells. Case quanity, at Grant Boys, was 20 boxes/case and sold for about $30 to $35/case for dove loads , maybe less. Now, I'm lucky to find a few...

    I GOT SHOT

I hope you don't mind, I asked my grandsons to read this thread since they now hunt on their own. I have to trust their judgement of their own safety among friends, but, Keep an eye on the others or accidents can be only painful , if lucky.

Daily bag limit / Possession limit

Just to fine tune the answer,,,,,Daily limit = 15 birds of which no more than 10 can be whitewings, and euros are a bonus. As mentioned above leave a fully feathered wing attached. 4 breasted dove in 1980 cost $125.00 at that Brawley courthouse. At least that's what I was told.

Scouting for deer in the desert but found a nice ram

Doing work in the cove communities of Rancho Mirage, I never got tired of Desert Bighorns wandering thru the properties. A ram or two would have rivaled that one in size. They were beautiful even with the collars.
