    National Forest closures

I may be going against popular opinion but...... I don't believe in closing land to lawful pursuits, unless there is a really good reason. I'm not and don't pretend to be an expert on fires and fuels. It seems to me that the states fire fighting resources are stretched pretty thin at present and...

    National Forest closures

You seem to have quite an attitude.I feel your privilege to hunt public lands means nothing to me. Maybe if you lost everything in that fire your bullshit wouldn't come off so absolute. But that's my opinion of your 'no one can order me,' and you have stated yours. My kids and grandkids in So...

    Weather for dove opener

I use pieces of shrimp on a #4 or 6 hook, 12lb mono and no weight. Try the smaller ditches off the bigger supply at checks gates and siphons. I finally learned to keep my shadow off the water. Chicken liver is good also, I tie it on a #2 baitholder with elastic thread. If no fish after 5-10...

    Small Game Scope

On my Marlin 17hmr I have a 3x12x40 Bushnell that works just fine. My marlin Papoose I put a red dot that makes it more fun for these tired eyes. They both do their part if I do mine.

    Heritage Fields

I usually stay away from the Heritage Fields any time near the opener. It's not just because of the crowding and low IQ's involved but the trash left behind. I don't want to sound like a snob, I just don't want to be near those kind of people. There have been some excellent hunts out of those...

    Caldor Fire

I'm just a little worried about this fire. It's northeast travel is putting it to close to South Lake Tahoe, my daughter, son in law and grand daughters. Sounds like the only thing that's going to knock this down is the weather. The kids aren't dumb, they will haul ass before they have a chance...

    Cots

We use 'Rio Gear' folding cots, 80x36x20" tall, 350 lbs. weight capacity. Heavy at 25 lbs. but we carry them in a truck when camping. No header or foot bar, lock into place and comfortable. I am 6'3" at 270 and found them at Big 5.

Calls from the wilderness....... What drives you!

I like the sounds of sleeping outside in the desert. Bugs so big they sound like hummingbirds hovering close to ear, every coyote within 10 sq. miles telling you they are there from a couple hundred yards and the burros braying like no tomorrow, all in the middle of the night...I love it.

Trail Cams for the Dove Opener

Stake out cameras in wheat stubble? I like that you think outside the box, but, what makes you think they will be there when you come back to retrieve them. You should put 6 or more to a field to verify flyways in and out of the field. Good luck and I hope you have deep pockets.

    Plaster City driveabout 6-13-21

I've been hunting Dove in Imperial and Palo Verde Valleys since pre teens and I'm 72 now. The fact that the posted land is becoming the norm is no revelation to anyone spending time in the fields. I have been told that We don't want you dove hunters in our fields before. I can understand...

    Triple Barrel!

Were not these type of shotguns developed for some country that had a ban on semi autos or certain repeating weapons? I just seem to remember reading about this type of design.

    Caitlyn Jenner for Cal Governor....

I caught enough flack being from Ca. when in boot camp and ait in the 60's. I don't think I could ever be tough enough if something like 'it' would have been gov.

    Shooting with your Opposite Hand

I am right handed and right eye dominate, but a short while back I couldn't hit the ground with my shotgun when aiming at it. This was a progressive sight problem, it was like a piece of frosty tape over my eye glass lens. Cataract surgery, wow, what a difference. I went from starting to learn...

    Who Shoots a Traditional Muzzleloader

I shoot a lot during dove the dove seasons. first and second. The cost of it all figured to be quite expensive, so, I figured I owed myself another shotgun. This year I am going to 'unretire' her and use steel with shotcups. I miss that smell and if the air was still enough I had to wait a...
