    "Budget" build

I've finally settled on a load for this rifle, and yesterday, I decided to try to take it out past 225 (the furthest I had previously shot with it). I started by re-zeroing at 100, and setting the zero stop (on my Vortex this is done by removing the cap and inserting shims). Then I got out my...

Trail cam pics- what do you see?

Actually, a friend recently bought 2 for me to use. Spent $300 on the 2 cameras. They take thousands of pictures of nothing until the batteries run down. One of them has a sensitivity adjustment. Now it takes only hundreds of pictures. It takes better night pictures, for sure, but I can't say...

Trail cam pics- what do you see?

Take a look at these pictures. What do you see? Look closely. I know what I WANT to see, but I don't want to bias things by saying it outright.

    Missed....

The deer were back on Saturday morning. Walked right up to within 35 yards of my buddy. It was still too dark to see if there were antlers at that distance, due to conditions and foliage, so he couldn't take a shot. I'm going back up tonight to see what walks by.

    bow shopping in SD county?

I've shopped at 3 different archery shops in San Diego over the years. One no longer exists. The Bow 'N' Arrow Shop in Lakeside is the shop that I recommend to everybody who mentions an interest in archery. Bruce and his crew will do right by you, with a smile, every time. Service, service...

    Missed....

On Labor Day, I was lazy and slept in. I got up to the mountains at about 2:00, and decided to check out one of my stand-by spots. The game trails looked pretty good, so I sat down and waited. Thunder rumbled, and after a while, it started raining on me. But I stayed, because it was still warm...

My, how things have changed in 25 years...

I agree with all of you! Unless they are stocked as fingerlings, hatchery trout are lame. I'd rather catch mackerel (they make good bait!). Don't get me wrong, I'll still fish for them when there's nothing else, but I've heard it's like kissing your sister. I wouldn't know anything about THAT...

My, how things have changed in 25 years...

25 years ago, my uncle, my aunt, my dad, 2 of my brothers, and I backpacked 13 miles in to Rae Lake in the Western Sierras (not to be confused with Rae Lakes on the East side). Back then, the lake had decent brook trout fishing. We also hit Lower and Upper Indian Lakes, which had more fish, but...

    my first long range build

We definitely need to put together a shoot! I'm such a poor shot, I won't be competition for anybody, but watching you guys shoot and asking questions and listening would be quite educational for me.

    Scouting Now Illegal?

The personnel answering these questions are not lawyers, nor are they judges, and they frequently give the wrong response. I once asked the Cleveland National Forest about treestands. They said that it is a "structure", and it's unlawful to erect a "structure" without permits...

Lead to be illegal even in your possession?

Yes, but talk to any warden, and they jump at the opportunity to tell you that they have the authority to search any vehicle of any person that they suspect has been hunting, and that they can search any portion of that vehicle that can contain game. And to quote the first warden that told me...

Fort Hunter Liggett primitive weapons areas. If he gets bored, he can go behind the base and shoot squirrels (just don't do so on-base).
