    D16...

Well, another year, another unfilled tag. I'm bored of tag soup, thinking of grinding it up and making a quick bread. This was my second year. I was only able to get out scouting twice and hunting for 6 days. All told I put in 50 hours and walked 30 miles. I think people who are 'successful'...

Nice Steve. You've really got some productive properties. Is that mostly MCC? Maybe you should be their PR rep.

Good hunting Don. Sounds like you won't have much trouble filling a tag or two. You're having an epic season! Probably have to buy another freezer.

    Noobs: Start Here!

Hey welcome to the sport. We get a lot of new hunters around here, especially in November during the hunting seasons. We tend to field the same questions so here’s a guide for getting started. When to start: ironically, the middle of the hunting season (Fall) is the wrong time to start hunting...

    Pheasant & Forky......

Fair enough. I don't know the state of turkey populations here. I'm seeing loads of healthy looking birds...on private land. But I know the drought has been hard on all wildlife.

    Pheasant & Forky......

That's a nice forky Steve. You didn't feel like dropping (or mentioning) that turkey sauntering by?

    1st tanning job

When I was in Boy Scouts, we tanned hides with the animals' brains. I don't remember exactly, but we sort of mixed the brains in hot water and then worked that into the hide with a stick and a knife. It's the way people did it before they had internets and chemistry. They even had a pithy...

    Rut Report

Well, it might be getting a bit late this year, but I was wondering if people would be willing to share very generic rut information that they're seeing. There's relatively little information about the mule deer rut, especially west of Nevada. This way we could track a broad overview of the rut...

You'll miss the rut if you sit on your butt!

Maybe we should have a yearly 'rut watch' on the forum. People could report (generic) areas and the type of activity they're seeing. Might help form a general picture of what's going on. In fact I'll think I'll start one now...

    Fine Firearms - Exceptional place

This topic has been covered but is worth reiteration. I bought my rig there 3 years ago and John (NBK) set me up right! Last night I posted on here that I tripped and fell while hunting and was worried about my scope zero. John told me to come on it and he'd check it out. I went by this...

    Scope knocked off zero

John that's awesome, thanks. I can come by tomorrow morning. I can't find any brand or numbering on the rings and I don't recall what they are. But I just googled Leopold PRWs and it looks like them. Will checking integrity change the zero point at all, or is it just a good looking over?

    Scope knocked off zero

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will answer the follow up questions in order: 1) Aeon - scope was mounted by FFA. So degreased, lock tite, everything is done to pro standards. 2) Don - Barrel was clean; just looked down it with a good light and inspected the muzzle before firing. Good suggestion...

    Scope knocked off zero

Hey dudes. I put in 8 miles on D16 yesterday, for nothing. But the hard part was, I tripped over the gate at the trail head and fell. Hard. Nice way to start a long hike. I looked over the rig (Ruger American .270 with Leupold VX1, a la Fine Firearms) and everything seemed OK; no evidence of...
