    Entry level surf rod/reel combo

Well just have to totally disagree. Been fishing for over 60 years for everything with fins. I know a thing or two. Short rods for surf fishing can be used but have several disadvantages which you must compensate for. I found a short article that says it better than me.. check it out -...

    Entry level surf rod/reel combo

Combos aren’t always the best set up. I stay away from combos. Buy the rod and reel separately. Keeping the price down I’d suggest an ugly stick surf rod 10 or 12’ or 14’. For surf fishing you need a long rod to cast a long distance. Stick with 10’ , 12’, or 14’ rod , not shorter. You can get...

    Couple of quick questions/advice

Nice looking labs. Glad you are getting back into hunting. I’ll defer to the So. Cal. guys to answer your questions but I will give this little piece of advice. Sounds like your dog is untrained and at least somewhat undisciplined (high strung). Don’t take your dog hunting until he has some...

    San Jac COOT HUNTER

When I walk out to my duck blind (about a quarter mile walk) my lab runs around through brush and tules hunting up duck, geese, pheasant cripples and what ever. Once he brought back a coot. I nicely admonished him and made him put it back where he found it. Hasn’t retrieved another coot since.

Yes been on 2 Alaska cruises. Love them. And yes we stay away from the tourist traps. I’ve gotten some great Alaskan artifacts and hand made things. Alaska is Gods country. We just like cruising and being treated like royalty.

Does my spotter need a license?

Here is the law from DOJ concerning conceal carry while hunting fishing. CARRYING A CONCEALED WEAPON WITHOUT A LICENSE It is illegal for any person to carry a handgun concealed upon his or her person or concealed in a vehicle without a license issued pursuant to Penal Code section 26150 . (Pen...

Does my spotter need a license?

You are probably ok carrying a handgun but you would have problems if you were carrying a large caliber rifle for “protection”.

    Kayak duck hunting question.

No motor and you can paddle right up to a bunch of ducks and blast away. Have you heard of sneak boats and sculling boats? They are designed to conceal the hunter and sneak up on rafted groups of ducks. They are legal in most all the states including California. I have used one a couple times...

    Practice practice practice!

I understand what you are saying but if a person can’t hit a paper plate at 20 yards they shouldn’t be shooting at deer 20 or more yards away. The kill zone is about the size of a paper plate, perhaps a little larger. If ya can’t hit the kill zone at what ever distance , don’t take the shot.

    Practice practice practice!

The original post states 8 deer have been spotted in a specific area with arrows in them. That’s only the ones seen, you know there must be many more out there not spotted. That’s too many to say it’s just shit happens, bad shot, or that’s hunting. That is at least in part due to unethical...

    Practice practice practice!

Mistakes and accidents happen. But there are a number of inept and unethical hunters out there and their actions reflect badly on all of us. Not being proficient in hitting your target or shooting without a clear sight is inept. Intentionally taking a long shot where chances of a clean kill are...

Does my spotter need a license?

He definitely does not need a hunting license. As long as he doesn’t have any gun in possession he’s just fine.

    Pocket Knife

I’ve carried a pocket since my dad gave me one when I was 9 years old. Never been without one since then. The thing about folding pocket knives is that they are easy to lose. I’ve lost many over my life time. I have some very fine and expensive knives but my pocket knives are not among those. A...
